New bands and groups have been popping up like mushrooms after rain lately. This time, I got my hands on a promo of the Gdańsk/Elbląg horde entitled Agonia. The people involved in this project are quite recognizable – especially if you are from Pomerania and know such hordes as Trup, Forbannet and Riese.
But Wojtek, you clumsy Eeyore, what is this whole "Fire will reach the sky"?! Well, a tribute to Bathory from the period of "Hammerheart" and "Blood Fire Death". The guitars, HARDLY inspired by these albums, draw this whole vision of "epicness" and "importance" in the sky and try to keep in check so as not to speed up too much or interfere with the source material.
The vocals are, of course – monumental, epochal and encouraging to fight. And with a big surprise. The whole thing is sung in Polish and it does not sound tragic at all! Some might get sick, but how is that? "Vikingowe granie" is not in Scandinavian or English? Well, no, and you can listen to it without the slightest embarrassment. Jarl approached the subject professionally and you can hear that he put a piece of his soul into it.
The whole thing is enclosed in 3 tracks plus the intro. 21 minutes minus 3 seconds - very short. Unfortunately, the material has no way to get going and leaves a lot of dissatisfaction. It builds this whole atmosphere, I'm going to dig out my armor and f**k! The end. Well, not nice. I hope it will be longer.
If you like it when it's played to Bathory, or even strongly inspired by it, then you will inhale this material. The rest will be ignored, like my dear friend Ef, who thinks that this EP is one big torment of a bun.
