Japanese black speed metal horde Bafomet are back with their second album of cult aggression. Out via Nuclear War Now Productions and Iron Fist Productions on December 31st with physical versions to follow in early 2024.Buzzsaw guitars enter with a cinematic sense of triumph, synthesised and packed with vibrant energy. This barrels into a venomous array of barbaric riffs and d-beats to unleash total extremity and mayhem. Savage vocals complete the raw mix and the carnal lust for blasphemy soars with a sense of traditionalism that clearly comes from the heavy metal of old. Howling with a menacing sense of the forbidden and evil, there is no denying Japan has some of the greats in this genre and for me Bafomet are worthy of such legions. The opening moments of this record conjure an inferno of hellish soundscapes and storms of malicious aggression for all the real maniacs to converge upon. If you enjoy blisteringly melodic, raw, rabid and untamed carnage then the first couple songs will already have you nailed to the cross with their razor-like viciousness.Soaring lead guitars give some more melody and classic feelings to the songs while not stealing from the unforgiving and merciless strength laid down in the foundations. The drums sound punchy and the onslaught of killer guitar riffs ensure every moment is viscerally intense while the animalistic vocals only push the bar higher. Perhaps it is masochism to engage with a record this hostile, but the sense of excitement and feral danger is tangible and embodies what real black metal should. Sharp enough to rip skin from bone, the hammering satanic assault is not one for the faint of heart, but the true die-hard will be in fits of ecstasy when they hear this raging banger blast from the speakers. When black metal has the raging and wild elements of more classic heavy metal it will forever reign supreme. Fellow Japanese legends Sabbat are perfect testimony to this. Bafomet break the “too much black, not enough metal” infestation of modern times and fall into the ranks keeping the real underground resistance burning bright. From menacing blasts to the groovier and more sleazy moments to rambunctious thrashing hell, there is so much diversity and powerful metallic glory on display in a mere half an hour. Blending the first wave sensibilities with a wild range of rocking influences, Bafomet have their own sound while harnessing all the key moments of greatness in heavy metal history to dizzyingly intense outcomes. “Baptized In Goat Blood” unleashes total hell with no mercy and a lustful desire for destruction. So blast it loud and proud!Blending heavy, black, speed and thrash metal into extreme aggression on overdrive, Bafomet have proven their debut was not a fluke and they continue to deliver top-shelf primitive metal. “Baptized In Goat Blood” is an adrenaline-soaked hell-scape of furious sadism that whips up a frenzy of chaos and revels in the violence left in its wake.
