After their great debut in pure brutal death style, for Contempt it was difficult to release another album that could compete with that The Secrets Around Us…and I must say that they did not achieved the goal completely. The new album, if more mature and with a cleaner production, has lost a bit in intensity and spontaneity. We are always talking about a good brutal death metal, but the assault of their debut survived only in few songs. After a small intro made of some oriental sounds, the first track is I Shall Rule. The production is clearer than in their first effort. The bass drum sound more “artificial” and cold, while the guitars are always very fast but less powerful and violent. There is also some fast solos in Slayer style but nothing especial. With the second track I begin to be a bit nervous and mad at the production; yes because this is a killer song with a great drums/guitar work but it is ruined by too clean sounds!!!!From now ‘till the end of the album, several songs like Hate or Holy Lies are a frontal assault that hurts less than the ones on the first record. The quality of their death metal, anyway, is very good and in some parts the brutality level is so high that reminds me early Suffocation, especially during the slower parts with some good technical mid paced riffs.Once You All Will Die When Our Overcast Day Shall Come (!?!?) song is my favourite one with lots of tempos changes and brutal parts mixed with mid paced riffs that stench of decomposition. I can only imagine a song like this on their first album…why why?? The guitars work is still incredible here, perfectly done even if we have some not very easy parts. The song that ends this album begins with both the guitars doing a sort of solos supported by the blast beats that remind me a Rebaelliun song, called Bringer Of War, on the Annihilation album. It's useless to say something about the difference in production.Anyway this is not a bad album, absolutely, but some tracks are too similar and what ruins it the most is the production. Why do some groups say they’ve reached the maturity in music only when they’ve lost the spontaneity and some fucking violence?! I cannot stand that! Let’s see the next album, hoping it will be like their first one.
