Crystalium "Diktat OmegA" CD

French musicians Crystalium combine some thrashy technicality with a drummer that sounds like he belongs in a death metal band, and a vocalist who sounds more than a bit like the guy from Nokturnal Mortum. In Diktat Omega, the production is terrible. Not terrible in a Mutiilation way, or even in a "St Anger" way, but the obviously electronic drums clash horribly with the organic sounds of everything else. It's kind of like putting a huge sound system with subwoofers in a horse-drawn carriage.
Beyond the production, the album has several well-written sections of songs, but the songs lack cohesiveness. The band sounds best when they are playing more stereotypical black metal sections. When their guitar player engages in pseudo-thrash it comes off as tepid and uninspired.
