Draugurinn is still determined into turning your living space into an ancient, Pagan meditation place, and even better now than on Daudada, the previous offering. Draugurinn has obviously progressed. Of course, speaking of something this ancient sounding, "progressed" might not the best of words. Let's say "went farther than before" and leave it at that.
Whereas the gloomy dark ambient of Daudada left a lot to the listener's imagination, Myrkraverk gives more hints. Nothing obvious, nothing flashy, still murky, still questioning, still transcending, but this time the space in time is slightly more tangible. Now the voices you hear are actually voices, namely whispers and wails, awakened from who knows when, but it was in a place audibly cold, dark, wet and barren. Yes, audibly, because, why wouldn't sound be perfectly able to describe space? No reason why not, really. And Draugurinn do it. The basic percussion has now evolved into sparse ritualistic percussion done by using shamanic instruments, and when not entranced, it is actually scary. But necessary. Whatever was forgotten didn't deserve it, and needs to be remembered even if the memories aren't comfortable. Once, this was sacred. Today, it needs to be remembered and revered again. Maybe Myrkraverk is just a memory, maybe it is a warning. As a matter of fact if you try reading Alan Weisman's The World Without Us while listening to Myrkraverk, it will be one hell of a warning.
