Back in 2002, this Black Metal formation from Zaragoza (Spain) casts the first stone of EMPTY’s prolific discography: Haunting vocals, crisp guitars, unique drum parts & atmospheres are the ingredients that will give birth to “A Source of Hollow Essence”. In 2002, Empty’s sound evolved from the symphonic, melodic and epic approach of the “Eternal Cycle of Declay” demo to something deeper, obscure & more technical. That evolution got the band closer to the Unholy Black Metal subgenre in which negativity and pessimism surround all creation. This stylistic shift was made possible not only by the musical evolution of Vanth & Drizzt but also thanks to the arrival of both Damastor on drums and Orgall on guitars. This was the beginning of the most classic era of the band, when Empty developed their sound: dismal melodies combined with an almost avant-garde sense of technicity and the unique voice of Drizzt became the recipe of their melancholic tracks. These monuments of darkness were supported by existentialist lyrics that gave a poetic touch to the record What made Empty one of the greatest representatives of the Spanish Black Metal scene outside their frontiers was a blend of traditional & pessimist aesthetics, local legends-based lyrics and of course an unquestionable sense of songwriting. Empty became one of the first Spanish bands to be produced by foreign labels – in this case the American label Blackened Moon. “A source of hollow essence” would later be reissued by Drakkar & Morbid Reasons, this record being their most distributed since the beginning of their career. Today, after nineteen, Vertebrae & Negra Nit are proud to honor this record by bringing it for the first time on vinyl in a DLP edition with inserts & colored gatefold, with a new master made specifically for vinyl by Moontower Studios. This new edition will feature exclusive pictures of the iconic Monasterio de Piedra and live photographs of that era.
