The hood I'm wearing isn't opaque enough to completely prevent me from seeing what's in front of me. My wounds are excruciating, and I'm freezing. This is surely due not only to being naked for several days, but also to the various wounds on my chest, arms, and legs. Right next to me is another poor wretch going through the same torment. We've found that asking for help, mercy, or insulting the guy doing this to us is useless. I don't know what my fellow sufferer is thinking, but for my part, I'm longing for him to finish me off already… Welcome to the universe of Encephalic.
Base Record Production will release the third album from the Brutal Death Metal band Encephalic. The album will be titled "Wrapped in Suffering."
Ladies and gentlemen, a band is good, or rather, truly good, when it's objectively and conclusively proven that each release is better than the last. That's precisely what has happened to this Andalusian duo. 2020's "Exalted Perversity" is a good album. However, from my perspective, it suffered from production and sound issues. With "Wrapped in Suffering," though, I can't find a single flaw. So much so, that for me it's one of the best releases from "Metal Muerto Brutal" so far this year. Its strengths are many, but I especially want to highlight the relentless pace changes. There's no room for rest or boredom here.
The six strings, sickening to the extreme, will delight even the most hardcore metalheads. Powerful, fluid, and punctuated bursts of piercing harmonics and double harmonies combine with occasional tremolo picking, creating an indescribable sense of sonic barbarity. Incidentally, they even include a solo in ‘The Beast of Düsseldorf [Peter Kürten]’. Hopefully, they'll decide to give the lead guitar more of a role in the future.
The vocals are downright malevolent. I appreciate that deep growls predominate, largely avoiding the mix of these with high-pitched, raspy guttural growls. The drums, this time masterfully programmed, don't sound unreal. Moreover, they couldn't be more dynamic. This is a real pleasure. Although every track is a delight, I especially enjoyed ‘Le Docteur Satan [Marcel Petiot]’, ‘Preserved in Alcohol [Bela Kiss]’, ‘The Satanic Narco [Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo]’, ‘The Beast of Düsseldorf [Peter Kürten]’, ‘The Beast [Luis Alfredo Garavito]’, and ‘The Marshal of Darkness [Gilles de Rais]’. As you'll see if you take a look at the tracklist, that's almost every single one. There must be a reason…
