Forest Whispers "Do Szkarłatnego Czyśćca" CD

The native Forest Whispers was one of last year's revelations for me, and the LP Arkana Zniewolenia released back then is practically a work I listen to incredibly often. That's why I grabbed the latest baby, Fallen Temple's EP, like Reksio with a squirrel. Admittedly, it's only three songs and twenty-one minutes of music, but the best you can do is snag a bird in your mouth... as they say.
Scarlet Purgatory is Forest Whispers in its purest form once again. It's intense, with brutal growls, fast and blasting drums, clear guitar lines, and a raw sound unadorned with any sugar-coated buttons. Of course, there are occasional radical tempo changes (Zamieć II), but the EP is a classic example of raw/pagan black. Just listen to the album's opening title track. You'll be picking up teeth within a radius measured not in meters but in kilometers. The next track is no worse, too, and it also spews venom. And with the force of a small bomb. But the best part is that the truly melodic and classically "forest" spirit and atmosphere are never lost in this sonic massacre. Bravo!

The only downside to this EP is its length. You'd love to listen to this kind of music for hours, but then it's gone. So I secretly hope that this year will bring a full-length album from Forest Whispers. I'm already saving it for my review queue. Forest Whispers is milk and honey, only in the form of a lancet and a razor with the weight of a war hammer.
