Hailing from Mexico City, From Forgotten Being is a band with a considerable history (since 1998, around 12 years, if I remember correctly). Their first album was only released on cassette, as it would be impossible to find on CD today.
After this, they released their second studio album, "Black Cataclysm." I actually discovered this band at the 2006 Black Metal Force festival. I had no prior knowledge of them, only that they had been part of the group of bands that, along with Inquisition, played alongside Mayhem during their tour in Mexico.
What is truly striking about this album is its cover art, so simple yet so mystical and ancient. Reason enough to begin the journey. What is immediately noticeable upon first listen is the incorporation of keyboards as a foundation in their music, adding mystery and a nebulous sense of malevolence. The style reminded me of Elfford & Dimmu Borgir (in their early years) and even Mystic Circle.
I liked their approach to Black Metal; I found it interesting for a debut album. We can notice marked and intense rhythm changes from Suffering Soul, and biting riffs well-balanced with melody from Embrionic Witch, who also handles the keyboards. The only thing that doesn't convince me is the female vocals and the occasional lapses in the male vocals. The female vocals give the impression that they wanted to integrate a fairytale-style voice into this merciless story—an idea that isn't bad, but the vocalist herself is lacking in clarity, as seen in the beginning of 'A Deity'. The male vocals, by Goblin Guardian, are confusing and incomprehensible, a clear example being the track 'Dreams From A Paradise Lost'.

And the male vocals, by Goblin Guardian, are confusing due to their incomprehensibility, a clear example of which is in the song 'Dreams From A Paradise Lost'. I don't see any poor quality or lack of effort, just minor details that ultimately led to improvements in later releases (see Black Cataclysm 2005). The album's length (50 minutes) isn't a hindrance; it doesn't become monotonous, and there's nothing to criticize in the production. A fine effort from the now-defunct label TOAJ Records.

If you enjoy black metal with a strong emphasis on epic atmospheres and pagan themes, this album will take you into the cold forest of oblivion.
