Glorification "Against All Adversity - A Hymn Of Demonic Victory" CD

Another branch on the pestilential tree of blackened death metal. This filth-encrusted style simply refuses to die, so it seems, and I really don't mind, you know. These releases are like pancakes to me: one is good, two are better, but a shitload of the things are what makes this guy a truly happy camper. And just as with pancakes, one comes out better than the other.
Glorification is one of those acts that rents a chamber in the house that Sarcofago, Holocausto and Sextrash built with their earliest records, but Impiety, Bathory and Blasphemy also shine through. Abrasive, primarily fast and propelled forward by primitive pounding percussion, scathing belt-sander riffs and reverb-drenched growling, the band hack themselves through a collection of songs that are intended to maim and mutilate. On occasion the foot is taken from the accelarator, to let slower parts provide some variation, but it usually doesn't take that long before they charge out of the gates again, full force. It has to be said that Glorification does manage to avoid uniformity somewhat by incorporating subtle keyboard ambience here and there, lending the music a suitably dark feel, to good effect. Some thrash metal riffs provide further variation, keeping the album interesting and on point, without sounding fragmentary.
And while the music sure is worthwhile, it definitely is a shame that the kinda lackluster production takes the edge away from the whole. I can't really put my finger on it, but music this reliant on blood-thirsty aggression should not sound this ... friendly. This album would certainly have reapt benefit from louder guitars and percussion, because it all sounds too nice. And let's face it, too nice is not what you want to have your black/death metal band sounding, right? This is some killer music with even a few original ideas present, but it's a bleeding shame that it is let down by this flaccid mixing job.
The fact remains that this is still a very decent album, but it would have roared louder and certainly more menacing had the production been there as well.
