Helicon "Mysterious Skipjack" CD

Calling this a Power Metal album is just plain wrong. I would be much more comfortable calling this Alternative Metal, as it has way more in common with bands like Mordred, than any Power Metal acts you can think of. They mix a whole lot of genres on this album. At times vocalist Uwe Heepen sounds like Les Claypool, but with a much wider vocal range. The vocals give the album an eerie psychedelic feel. It's an amazing album, that needs a couple of spins before you can fully appreciate its multilayered musicality. I had this at 3 1/2 stars, but after a few re-listens I'm currently at 4/5 stars. Don't be fooled by the Power Metal-tag this got on RYM. It's such a diverse album. A true lost classic, waiting to be discovered.
