For those who worship at the pagan altar of: BATHORY, PRIMORDIAL, DRUDKH, SKYFORGER...
From the ancient shores of England comes the Anglo-Saxon pagan black metal band ILDRA. "Eðelland" will lead you through the forests, moors and ruins of ancient Britain in the form of epic pagan folk black metal. One of the few black folk metal bands whose lyrics are in the ancient Anglo-Saxon language. ILDRA along with fellow countrymen WINTERFYLLETH, FOREFATHER, and EALDULF embrace the history of their land. Keep in mind however none have really delved into this topic to the extent in which ILDRA have on "Eðelland". It’s a welcome variation from the usual ancestral European Pagan and Celtic beliefs and a window into a European history that seldom gets any attention at all in the underground metal scene. ILDRA can easily stand on its own two feet against the best of the Viking, Pagan, or Folk Metal genres. ILDRA conjures up an epic, engrossing atmosphere that fits the time period that the lyrics depict. "Eðelland" sounds rich and full in all aspects; the production is excellent yet harsh, the guitars having plenty of strength which can remind one of old BATHORY at times, and the acoustic guitars have a natural, woodsy sound that flow well and maintain a balance throughout the record on the various interludes weaved into the fabric of this great album. This is Folk music delivered through the style of Pagan Black Metal and you will discover some influences like a subtle mid-career BATHORY flow that is obvious as the album crawls along while entering your veins. If you are one who is inspired by the culture driven songs of bands like DRUDKH, PRIMORDIAL or SKYFORGER then you will also be impressed by the heritage rich music of ILDRA. Yet keep in mind ILDRA has a unique identity all of their own and have delivered an excellent album that will be received well by those seeking the feeling of the past! Absolutely Mandatory!
