France's Lord play old school black metal with a good deal of thrash thrown in. On Hell's Fucking Metal, the band delivers a good album full melodic black metal riffs, blasphemous vocals, and thrashy throwdowns. The album boasts a fairly raw production, that gives the music a sense of dark atmosphere while not rendering the music totally unlistenable.
After a doomy intro(complete with thunder and wind sound effects) the band kicks it into thrash mode on the title track. Female guitarist Hoggsogoth shreds with demonic precision while the band delivers riff after flesh flaying riff. The vocals go mainly for a mid ranged black metal scream, but also throw in plenty of high shrieks and a few growls for good measure.
"My Heaven's Hell" begins with epic sounding black metal riffs and blast beat drumming. This song continues in this vein, delivering plenty of brutal yet melodic riffage.
"The sail of Charon" begins with a haunting bass line before the band kicks in with more epic, melodic riffs. This song has interesting lyrics as well, detailing the legend of Charon, Hell's ferryman. This also explains where bassist/vocalist Charon got his moniker.
"Unholy and Blasphemic" brings more of the same melodic thrash riffs, but this song features more growling vocals than the other songs on this album.
Also, drummer Armageddon's toms sound like gun shots in nthe part befoe the mid section.
The album's bruiser "Tormentor, Die By My Will" hammers the listener with brutal mid tempo riffs and speedy thrash riffs. The gang vocals on the chorus are cool as well.
"Apocalyptic Death Spell" is fairly decent, but seems very repetitive, especially during the mid section riff which is used far too many times.
The album's closer "La Huit du Necromant" is another good epic black metal song with plent of cool guitar harmonies. This song also has a cool bass line during the mid section. The only thing I don't like about is not being able to understand the lyrics which, are in French. But, if a band wants to sing in their own language, thats cool.
I would recomend this album to any fan of old school black metal, and to fans of thrashing black metal as well. While not entirely unique, this band does know how to keep things interesting.
