Maniac Butcher are far less recognized by the black community than they should be. They represent much of what could be done to fix a genre falling into a terrible "basement" trap in which the musicians barely know how to play and refuse to even make attempts at listenability. Maniac Butcher though, are a mix of the best elements of (old) Slayer and the updated horror-vibe of second wave black metal. Maniac Butcher play with precision, write songs with a unique and violent drive and manage to make a production value that is both raw yet competant. Needless to say...they've impressed me! (The vocals aren't as strong as they should be...but they weren't doctored which is something a live release admirably preserves.)
Many of my personal faves on this include the opening "Barbarians" and other tracks such as "Sileny Reznik" and "Pulnocni Rise". Not one song falls below the "great" radar and the band throws their hammering drums and screaming guitars like bullets from the stage. This concert was a church-burner, because not one single moment of this record lacks energy and violence. The weaker vocals aside...the destroys.
Maniac Butcher will hopefully get the attention they deserve with a little more time. The Czech horde has been working hard to make themselves (such as Finland) one of the "truest" black metal scenes and Maniac Butcher prove a point for them.
