After their great previous album, Master in 1993 came back with a new effort, basically more thrash metal in its style. It is hard to find a band that started as a death/thrash one in a period of thrash metal and becomes thrash in a period of death metal! Well, Master did it with this album. The tracks here, even not being as good as on “On the Seventh Day God Created …Master”, are quite enjoyable.
The first thing you can hear is the production: far clearer and thrash. The guitars are not so tuned down anymore and the vocals are less growly. Nickeas at drums is always fast but sounds less powerful with this production. The opener track is in old style death/thrash; a song that could easily fit well in their previous work with the fast bass drum and up tempo. The mid paced riffs and some punkish up tempo parts on “Taste Of Insanity” are nice but not great.
“Hidden Stories” is too boring to me: 4 minutes of mid tempo with some dissonant riffs while the punk influences on “Glorify the Dead” and funny but not bad ass. Finally with “Blinded Faith” we accelerate again and with the following “Justice Or Faith” we can breath again some death/thrash metal influences. Passing through the good hard rock of “Jailbreak”, we continue with the title track: mid paced riffs with a speed part in the final part during the solos and the refrain.
The super-fast “Silver Spoon” is a good piece of brutal death/thrash and a perfect track to end this album. An effort that is surely more thrash but with lots of enjoyable moments and some more boring. Anyway a good album, but surely lots of old school fans won't like. The difference between this one and “On The Seventh…” album is huge.
