Evol "The Saga of the Horned King" CD Digisleeve!!

Totally influenced by Italian horror movies soundtracks from the 70s, Evol always managed to create an awesome mix between orchestral keyboard based pieces and fierce black metal songs. Of course because of this Evol music will mostly appeal those who ever listened to the soundtracks of “Phenomena” or “Susperia” (for the most famous ones) or watched those movies, the others will just see this as boring keyboard songs, yet the songs are way better than any Mortiis recording!! But the spirit and honesty is here, and no other band than Evol ever got that close to the genius of the (also Italian) band Goblin, pushing the dedication to the point of covering the “Phenomena” theme on their “Ancient Abbey” EP.
Sure the black metal parts are not so original but Evol music was never totally dedicated to black metal and come on, aren’t they countless bands out there playing even crappier black metal who are considered kvlt? So really, this shouldn’t be a reason to avoid this band at all.
Also about the accent thing, I don’t see the problem here, Norwegian, Swedish and many other “exotic” bands either use their native language or have strange accents and they are considered cool and really, what has the accent of some singers has to do with their music talent? Nothing…
To end this review, I would recommend Evol to any fan of movie soundtracks or Italian occult metal bands in the likes of Mortuary Drape, Death SS, etc… Having in mind that the black metal songs became faster and more extreme on their later releases while still keeping those dreamlike atmospheric keyboard parts.
