Extreme Slavonic Black Metal from Poland. Long awaited new album.
Released 20-07 by Werewolf Promotion & Stronghold Music.
If I remember correctly, about four years ago I had the pleasure of writing a few sentences about Old Leshy's debut, which was an album, maybe not exceptional yet, but giving great hope for the future. So when I received the band's new album, I stood next to the aforementioned abyss, and checked whether Lechu would fall down or overcome the force of gravity. Well, and let me tell you, he fucking did it. "Na Skraju Przepaści" is the same style, very much inspired by early Emperor, in this case you can probably hear "In the Nightside Eclipse" even more strongly than on the debut, but when it comes to the level of arrangements, it is a jump at least one rung higher. Apart from the fact that this album radiates a genuine coldness, at times even hostile to human existence, there is also a lot of old-school melody here. Created not only by guitar harmonies, but also by the rather richly used keyboard backgrounds. However, there is no question of any sweetening here, because it would be more or less like comparing the aforementioned Emperor to Dimmu Borgir. On the edge of the abyss, all the elements are purely black metal, without a shadow of corniness. The guys (because I haven't mentioned it yet, but Old Leshy is no longer a solo act, but a duo) in their compositions perfectly reflect the spirit of black metal from the nineties. Both in terms of riffing, creating an Arctic atmosphere, and sounding straight from the years when this genre was at its peak. They also add very good vocals. Supposedly nothing special, but they are the quintessence of the style. Sometimes, and I've heard quite a few albums in my life, I'm surprised how you can create an album that's so fucking mind-blowing in a brazenly unoriginal way, using already worn-out means. Old Leshy did it. They recorded almost an hour of music that, like a time machine, transported me back to my school years so vividly that I shed a tear, even though guys don't cry. Actually, I don't even know what the fuck to add here as a conclusion... For me, it's a great album that definitely exceeded my expectations, even if I assumed it would be good. Take it, listen, don't give a damn!
