Once again, PERPETUAL's new release was recorded, mixed, and mastered in the coastal city of Ferrol (A Coruña), specifically at The Ocean Studios by Brais Landeira, where songs by RUINAS and TURBO KRAKS have also appeared. This album follows the previous releases "Visions of Death" (2009 EP), "Carving a Dismembered God" (2015), and "Maze of Chaos" (2018)."Memento Mori" features illustrations by Eder "Putrid Carcass" Hernández (INNER DARKNESS, NASTY SURGEONS, PORK TRUE, and IRREDEMPTION), who created the cover for a work whose central theme is suicide, revolving all the lyrics around that theme. An interesting contribution, since suicide is the leading cause of unnatural death in Spain, leaving 10 to 11 deaths every day, but since those who control the media believe that talking about suicide invites suicide, it is a hidden issue.Musically, "Memento Mori" is thirty-seven minutes of pure death metal, reminiscent of the American sounds of OBITUARY, DEATH, and MALEVOLENT CREATION, while also incorporating other European influences. The intention is none other than to deliver tracks like "Alone In Hell" and "Shades Of Pain." These are fluid, uninterrupted, and always intense songs. The band fully dedicates itself to composing songs that are as aggressive as they are precise, without sacrificing an ounce of speed and creating a remarkable cohesion in every second of each track. PERPETUAL operate in pure death metal territory, with a straightforward style dominated by the intensity of tracks that range between three and four minutes. Hence, they decided to leave a breath of fresh air midway through the recording, an instrumental called "Limbus," which serves to slightly relax the ears that will continue listening to tracks that delve deeper into the effectiveness of the achieved sound, with the sing-along "Bloody Retribution," "Hidden In The Shadows," and "Eternal Sin" being three good examples."Memento Mori" is not an album where one track stands out above another, although some resonate better than others. PERPETUAL have achieved a very solid album, where every song seems to have its place within the recording, playing with various influences, although the most noticeable are those mentioned above from across the Atlantic.
