"Following the impressively haunting intro ‘Dawn of Horror’ – sounding like some movie score the band recorded with a microphone pressed right up against the TV speaker – Polish duo Pregierz very quickly get down to business, the bounds between death and black metal collapsing in a barrage of distorted-beyond-distinction riffs and muddily hard-as-nails drums. With an erratic and murderous vocalist spewing ritualistic expletives over the pandemonium and extracts from horror films strewn across it, Blood Sanctions sounds like what the corpse-littered basement of your friendly neighbourhood psychopath looks like...But like the butchered body parts that fill that basement, you could take any of the riffs here and stick them together in any arrangement and be pushed to tell the difference. Though it’s messy and the tracks tend to quickly blur into one with any shade of individuality disappearing beneath the mire of muck and massacre, this 24-minute mass of blood, bone, and freshly torn flesh is a gory and grotesque pleasure. Flawed, yes, but abominably addictive"
"Horror and metal have always been partners. Ever since the inception of metal, horror has been an underlying inspiration for tons of bands. Whether it’s BLACK SABBATH’s Satan references, the creepy cover of KORN’s debut album, or even MOTIONLESS IN WHITE’s eerie synth-work, horror and metal just suit. On Blood Sanctions, Polish duo Pręgierz push this to its limit – the haunting intro ‘Dawn Of Horror’ sounds like a horror movie soundtrack, while unsettling screams and horror film sound-bites accompany some of the EP’s other tracks...After the short intro, Pręgierz dive head-first into a distorted mash-up of black and death metal. In places, the ridiculously distorted riffs are effective, sounding like the sonic recreation of that one scene in Day of the Dead where the guy is ripped apart by zombies. However, in others it really is a nuisance. The chaotic drums and driving riffs of ‘Crawling Abomination’ sound like they’d be awesome (like, really awesome) if you could actually make them out amongst the grimy production...Honestly, though, this is not a bad EP. It’s actually annoyingly addictive. You won’t be able to listen to it without criticizing it, and you will almost definitely get annoyed at some of the lost potential, but there’s something about the mass of gory riffs and monstrous vocals that just makes it an instant guilty pleasure...You know those bad horror films that everyone always slates but you’ve secretly always enjoyed? Yeah, this EP is like that"
of insanely raw, totally old-school, and very cult blackened death from Poland? I'm not a hard man to please when you whisper sweet nothings like that into my ear. And when it's all sloppy and wild and ragged and late-'80s like this, well, I'm all yours. So, uh, have your way with me, Pregierz, because this death metal is the metal of death just the way I like it, and while I could probably never identify this band if you put a blindfold on me (if you'll pardon my 50 shades of blackthrash) and cranked this up and forced me to say the band name, I would never guess it.
But when it's on, forget it, I just love it, tunes like "Crawling Abomination" summing up all that is right and good about Hellhammer and all other manner of proto-black and early death and modern bestial. Add in a touch of the harshest old-school German thrash (in atmosphere if not strict sonics), and the fact that I think CD are totally awesome, and it's a winner
