Finally, Resurrected are back! With their 5th release they are showing that Death Metal is about deep lungs and very very low guitars, and of course , fast and brutal drum work. Having heard that Michael Scholz left the position of the drummer surprised me, as he did some of the best and coolest drum work I had ever heard. Michael uses to play very brutal, not giving a fuck about triggers, but only about the crazy sound of the drums. He sounded like incarnated hatred on RAPING WHORES, one of my all time favorite albums. Adriano Ricci from Grind Inc., another great German band, replaced him while recording, and did some really amazing work. The double bass tracks haven't gotten any slower than Michael used to play them, and Adriano plays the slow parts of the album and they almost sound as heavy and fucking raw as on RAPING WHORES. Also Stefan Bays got replaced by his brother Ben on the bass, and of course the empty drummer's place was filled in with Hazim Fouad, who will show what Resurrected is all about live, and will be a full time member of the band.
Resurrected have kept their original sound throughout all their releases, which made their sound special, and everybody knows what Resurrected sound like, because they differ from all the other bands in Germany with that special sound, and gained much respect in the underground, as they stayed loyal to the underground, althought becoming very popular in the world wide genre of Death Metal. One thing Resurrected are also known for are the "gurgrle gurgle-deep lungs" vocals of Carsten Scholz, Michael's brother, being on board from the very beginning. He never used any pitch shifter or harmonizers, but still his vocals sound like he was slaying pigs for breakfast. His vocals are really inhuman, and he is one of the few in the world who can sing like this. Thomas Granzow is one of the contributors of the special sound of Resurrected, as his guitars are really cutting with their chords. It seems when all guitar players in Death Metal started copying the US styles, and all the famous brutal bands, Thomas thought of getting his own sound, and giving more about originality, then of copy/paste sounds. That's why Resurrected got a sure followship in Germany, but also over the borders.
"Hidden In Disguise" is a real opening track, as Resurrected don't spend their whole ideas from the start, giving the listener a preview what will strike them later on. Headbanging is garanteed from the beginning, as blast beats will always be a trademark of Resurrected, just like ultra deep vocals. If I hadn't broken my neck to of Leng Tch'e, and of course, to previous releases of Resurrected, I would break it again,' cause you just have to bang when these grinding chords come at you. Besides neck-breaking chords, Resurrected are famous for their very slow parts (if they were even slower, the CD would turn backwards), which serve to make the whole atmosphere complete - world annihilation, apocalypse, Hell reopening, and corpses all over the place. Ultra low tuned slow parts mix with grinding blast beat appearances, and your head is only connected to your spine. I am glad that the newest release still has some of the spirit of the first releases, but also went further with the killing - the music is a real soundtrack for mutilation and rape.
Being one of the few German bands that are unique for their sound in Death Metal, Resurrected will not stay only one of the best bands of the genre in Germany, but in the world, as they aim to claim the world. For all poeple who love deep-vocals, pounding and crushing, hammering and cutting Death Metal, take hold of these motherfuckers, if haven't already, 'cause they are up to kick your balls up to your lungs, and they won't stop till the last neck is broken. Or the last head banged. Must-have relase.
