Fascinated by occultism and the magic of black metal, Daevas, the bassist and singer, founded SECRETS OF THE MOON after leaving MARTYRIUM in Osnabrück in 1995. Thanks to an impressive discography spanning seven full-length albums and countless domestic and international performances, SECRETS OF THE MOON established itself as one of Germany's most revered Dark Metal bands over the 27 years until its termination in 2022.
Prior to releasing their debut album, Stronghold of the Inviolables, in 2001, the mischievous collective produced a body of work comprising two demos, Unearthed Arcana and Vanitas; the Promotape 98; the infamous, never-officially-published Moondance Madness tape; and the cult Split 7" EP with Lunar Aurora. Although they are less well-known than the band's albums, these dusty relics from the dark past are no less significant. Naturally, these recordings are much rawer and unpolished than the studio albums. However, they make up for this with the mystical charm that pervades every second.
Darkness Shall Rise Productions now have the great pleasure to reissue all of these raw diamonds from SECRETS OF THE MOON’s formative period, along with many obscure recordings unearthed especially for this compilation.
A new in-depth interview with Lars 'Devas' Plege and Phil 'S.G.' Jonas has been conducted especially for this release, and the booklet also includes many previously unseen pictures of the group's glorious past.
The songs have been completely remastered from the original tapes by Patrick W. Engel at the Temple of Disharmony.
Over 130 minutes of pure black metal magic!
