International split CD, released on Winter Solstice 2023 by Werewolf Promotion

Three-way split albums are not the usual thing to listen to (at least for me), but Polish underground label Werewolf Promotion released last winter’s Solstice is an interesting one. Its name is Sny Zmory and the bands that participated in this album are some of the top in the pagan/black metal genre – Stworz from Poland brought his specific melodic and at the same time atmospheric songwriting. I was curious if W. didn’t run dry of inspiration since he contributes to a lot of various projects. And he did not. I was pleased to hear another refreshing stuff. Krajiny Hmly is one of the most active Slovak black metal bands and they came with two new songs. The first one V kráľovstve dávnych príbehov is a bit untypical for their musical composition, but I liked the way how it sounds and the new experiment with Namtar’s clean vocals – very well done. The last one is the Russian band Jassa. I have stopped a bit with the naming of the band because their bandcamp says that Jassa is the chthonic deity of Novgorod Slavs. Truth is that it is not and deity Jassa is mentioned only in the source of Polish chronicler Jan Dlugosz who compared Jassa to Roman Jupiter. I just wanted to clarify the naming of band and now about the music. It is clear and not hidden that composition is inspired by Roman Saenko’s legendary Hate Forest, but at the same time, I wouldn’t say that it is copypaste music. Some parts sounds more of death/doom metal and also using jaw harp is a nice way to make it more interesting. The whole split album is a really good recording and undoubtedly one of the best split albums in 2023.
