If two decades ago someone would have told me “One day you’ll collaborate for a CENTURY MEDIA's TREBLINKA release”, I would have a lot of laugh.This box is for sure one of the most waited twothousandthirteen release. The idea of this box is dated way back one year ago when Philipp Schulte (coordinator of the release) contacted me about the possible deal with the StockHolmers Watsoners. The idea was to give justice to the Necrophagous Shadows with the first official re-release against the huge amount of bootlegs which nowadays circulated in the floated panorama. Daniel Ekeroth and Olivier Badin were recruited to interview the actors (namely Juck, Emetic and Hellslaughter), whilst me and Juck were asked to provide scans of zine-cuts and demo covers. Said and done within few days, I sent him the scans of my demo collection, some of them originally owned by pen-friend Mr. Cronis, owner of cult TO THE DEATH Records from Skäne who was, back in time, a reference with his fanzine. So I did scans of the TREBLINKAs, RIVERS EDGE (cult thrash band having 3 out of 4 members of what would become TREBLINKA), the cult VVAA HYMNS OF THE DEAD compilation tape 89 (assembled by Fredrik Thörnqvist, the guy who managed with Johan the cult MOULD IN HELL label, skillful drawner and former member of EXPULSION), 7” inches surfaces (you know the red and black editions are pretty different in the centered label) and classic zine-cuts from old yellowed sheets (SLAYER MAG, MORBID, MEGA MAG …).
Well, one year later, I’ve this cult FIVE-frisbee-box in my hands and I must say the content is more than expected. What most impresses me is the interview\band history of Daniel: full of interesting hellraising anecdotes and never revealed before details. The interview of Olivier maybe could have been better but his interlocutor, Johan Hedlund, is not the most expansive guy around. I still remember back in the heydays when I interviewed (DISINCARNATE heydays) the TIAMAT dudes in their tour-bus. The tour manager greedy invited us: “BEWARE: No questions over satanic themes!”. Of course me and my zine-comrade Andrea Donadon were really upset and no really comfortable in asking our questions around their pentagram-table. The Table had a lot of mess: cigarettes, beer bottles everywhere but… a cd copy of “Reign in blood” in the center. Mikko Mattila \ISTEN complained about the fact that 5 lps for a band who barely did 10 tracks is way too much. Might be correct, but on the other hand it’s cool to hear their old live performances in the suburbs of old Stockholm: 07/04/89 (Live Café Nyfiket Björken T-bana Bredäng with NIHILIST\DISMEMBER - known among tapetraders like “Death metal Gala Night”) - 20/11/88 (at Ultra Huset to what I know) and 25/02/89. Besides the demo and 7” tracks there’re also some rehearsals (one never heard of 2008) but the big point, content-wise speaking, is the lugubrious Instrumental Studio Outtakes recorded at Sunlight 10/89 for what (sadly) became the first TIAMAT album (instead of TREBLINKA).I’ve heard others that complained about the quality of the photos. Many have big size so they look pixelled but I guess the aim of medialogistics (who took care of the layout) was to give an old fashioned-shape. Instead, my complaint could be to have not included the extra track namely 'Sign of the pentagram', which appeared only in the first CMFT cd pressing. Then I would have appreciated to see a reprint copy of the DAMN RARE inlay inlay of Severe abomination 7" 04/89: very few copies back end got an inlay with lyrics! This release will become in years to come one of the most wanted boxes from all metal collectors.
