"Triade Nordique" is the third output of the band Triskèle and a very hypnotizing record that offers some pleasant surprises. The band doesn't only focus on speed and blast beats as many other bands of the same genre but they are able to create a truly majestic doom atmosphere. A lot of passages in each of the songs are rather slow and depressive and establish a great flow. The band also uses several interesting interludes that underline the lyrical approaches and folk topics.
The highlight of the record is without a doubt the epic "Vers la route des ancêtres" that offers atmospheric and hypnotizing black metal at its very best and includes some great changes that keep the attention high until the end of the track. The other epic track which is "Les murmures de la forêt noire" offers some outstanding guitar riffs and is actually quite catchy. The whole album is filled with calm and chilling instrumental interludes such as "Révérence du passé" or "L'étendard" that are welcome changes of style within the record.
There are also a few more redundant tracks that fail to surprise and vary as much as some of the other ones, for example the overlong "Les Hommes du Nord" or the faster and mostly ordinary "La forêt, mon univers". But overall, the band convinces and the album as a whole piece of art is quite impressive and addicting as it grows more and more with each new try. It's not about details or innovation but the strength of the record is its doom atmosphere. As this release is strictly limited to fifty copies including a great foldout poster, you should get this nice gimmick by contacting the band or trying to see them live. Let's say that the cover artwork and booklet are great and the sound quality perfectly fits the atmosphere. It's an underground sound but not too much as the band just found the right mixture between underground aggressivity and a rather good sound that let us here the instrumental variations such as of drums and guitars. Triskèle have some dull tracks in their set list but also some outstanding works that are among the best of the genre and whole Quebec black metal scene. I hope that these guys will be able to catalyze their strengths for the future by creating more epic, atmospheric and progressive songs such as the incredible "Vers la route des ancêtres". Right now, I already give a fairly positive rating but I know that these guys could even do much better.

Triskèle's first release was a very raw BM album that was recorded in the forest. While very enjoyable, the album got a bit boring after a while. After getting their second album, Origines, I was hoping they wouldn't stick to the same old stuff (not that it's a bad thing, but everyone needs to evolve), I was hoping they'd make different BM. Damn, i'm such a lucky guy. I got what I wanted. This sounds nothing like their previous release, production AND riffage wise.
This one has a more medieval feel to it - or rather a march feel to it. The intro totally sets the mood and the tone for the album. It's a classical orchestra piece, and it sounds really, really impressing. You'll also notice the riffs are a lot cleaner than the ones in "Les Murmures De La Forêt". There's about the same amount of distortion, but there isn't any forest echo. The vocals are also great, and this time we can at least hear them! The riffs aren't too repetitive also, they manage to put in a good amount or rifs in everything song. The vocals on this release DO sound like akitsa (the ones that sound like a gregorian chant). As for the harsh vocals, it's just your basic BM growling.
Now for the bad parts. This is way too short (34 minutes in length). It would also add a lot of feeling to the album if more acoustic parts were added, to add more feeling to album, or to keep the aforementionned medieval feel to it.
Still an excellent release, and better than "Les Murmures De La Forêt".

Triskele's 2003 debut album, Les Murmures de la Forêt in short is one of the most amazing black metal albums i've heard from the Canadian black metal legions! Rumor has it that this demo was recorded in the very depths of the forest. It isn't very doubtful with the aura that is created with this release. You can feel your self in the middle of the forest with the winds and trees chanting the cold hymms that embrace and suffocate you on the listening experience of this album!
The band plays very raw black metal yet include a very melodic side to them a la Ombres. With an excellent mixture as an intermission track within the cold and distant array of black metal assault throughout this album.
The vocals are as harsh as they come on this release. With the very darkness erupting from the depths of the vocalists soul can be seen as agonizing in some sections. You can really see this releases as the murmurs of the forest with the atmospheric improvement that the vocals provide through this release.
The guitar work is very calm to chaotic on this release. There is a lot of diversity in the melodies of this release that really helps push the album to greater distances ascending onto the blackend plateaus of brilliance in their music. This underground secret is a must listen to album for people. Absolutely brilliant in it's entirety as the music brings you to the blackest void of the nocturnal forest realms through this release. Truely a worthy album that shouldn't go unnoticed!
