Hailing from Russia, and featuring the recently deceased Ulv Gregner of Raven Dark and Forest on bass, Velimor has created a great folk metal album on the same pathway as the earlier Forest and Branikald records, meaning metal that brings to mind the darkness of nature and the ancient past.
Opening with an excellent folk intro, featuring flutes and also some battle samples, the album instantly takes me to a dark forest, where the sunlight slowly filters in. The intro ends with some folk singing which I believe is the same as was on Hate Forest's Battlefields, but then the album really starts with Wolfish to the Wolf Sheepish to the Sheep, a track that opens with some heavy metal style riffs, that really sets the stage for the rest of the album. Meaning heavy metal riffs, with black metal stylings, some flute elements, all coming together to make me think of a rawer Moonsorrow. Really the whole album has this Russian feeling, the complexity of the riffs should satiate any fan of heavy metal, and also with the black metal elements and folkish heathen feeling this should satisfy any fan of such forms of black metal. Really in the end having something for nearly every heathen metal fan. I'd suggest picking this up, it is worth the money and should make a satisfying listen to any heathen metal fan.
