Another black metal album in my player. Maybe it's a sign that summer is ending? In fact, the cover of this compilation is perfect for cooling down. I'm talking about Voin Grim and the material entitled "Bewitching Whirlwinds of the Frozen Realms". Are you cold yet? And they haven't even started playing yet, hehe. Or rather, they won't start, because Voin Grim is a one-man horde from Ukraine. On this album, they included two EPs: "Bewitching Winds of Transylvania" and "Sacraments of the Frozen Realms". In total, these are seven compositions in a cold, black metal style and an atmosphere completely torn from the nineties. I don't know if the guy won't get mad at me, but Voin Grim's songs remind me of the early works of Behemoth, Graveland or Thunderbolt, as well as Emperor and Gehenna - they are fast, hateful, and at the same time they don't shy away from keyboards and melodies. In addition, they sound raw – Vojfrost doesn’t bother with any polishing of the sound, which is why this compilation has a sound that refers directly to the black metal scene from a quarter of a century ago. I won’t say that it’s not bad to listen to, on the other hand, today’s black metalheads will probably say that Voin Grim’s proposal is as stale as last week’s bun and they prefer something that sounds better. Tough luck, such is life. I think that I will return to this material from time to time, because sometimes I simply feel like listening to this kind of black metal. And I will probably return to it even more often when winter comes. Because it is such a typical album for long, cold evenings.
