Track 6 Axebastard cover
Who doesn't know this band? They've been recording black metal since 2012, ignoring trends and ignoring all criticism. From the very beginning, the Finns have been doing their own thing, paying homage to the disgusting black metal that Satan himself likely created at the dawn of time. Now, Fallen Temple has taken on their 2018 EP, which was originally released on cassette, digitally, and as a standalone CD. Physical copies of those releases are probably hard to come by these days, but thanks to our Częstochowa-based label, fans of this duo will be able to complete their collection, if, of course, they don't already have "Barbaric Iron" on their shelves. Nothing new can be written about Vonülfsrëich's music, because to this day, just like on this short album, they play a raw and uncomplicated bleczerz that is downright striking with its misanthropic nature, which amounts to a middle finger extended to the values that oppose it. Rough guitars, coarse bass, cardboard barrels with crisp, flat-sounding cymbals, and off-putting vocals. That's what these six tracks, plus one bonus track, offer, which shouldn't surprise anyone, as crudeness is the band's trademark. These instruments, along with Fogg's throat, create a simple, unsophisticated sound, devoid of crude tremolos, but exclusively repulsive chords with a sinister edge. They craft filthy melodies and whip painfully, but they can also rock in a punk fashion. This hideous music, crafted in the style of its early '90s forebears, is infused with the steady rhythms of Tom G. Warrior, which cast a darkness and a pestilential air. Recorded in a barbaric style that lends it a basement-like coldness. A rippling, grimy sound, where guitars crack shrilly, low notes boom to burst your eardrums, and vile vocals snarl blasphemies. Pure black metal, based on the Norwegian principles that gave birth to its second wave. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
