The True Endless / Mephisto "Too Heavy For Hell" Split CD

Descripción This is the split featuring two Italian bands: Mephisto and The True Endless. It seems these two groups share a strong rapport, as they went on to release another split in 2010 titled "Too Heavy For Hell."
Starting with the Neapolitan band Mephisto: "Hordes Of Hell" is a thrash metal track that draws from the legacy of early Bathory. It features a raw, direct sound—recorded live in the studio—and captures a true 80s attitude. It’s a solid track for fans of the genre (myself included!).
On the flip side, we have The True Endless from Novara, who offer a more conventional style of black metal, complete with blast beats, buzzing Norwegian-style guitars, and Italian lyrics. I’m not deeply familiar with their work, but I have to say that—while their first track is compositionally sound (the second is more of a repetitive guitar dirge, feeling more like an outro than a proper song)—the drummer’s performance is decidedly lackluster. It sounds as if the track was recorded in a rush—a "first take" scenario—yet it’s riddled with noticeable mistakes and uncertainties.
If you care more about attitude than recording quality or technical precision, this split might be for you; otherwise, you’re better off skipping it. The artwork is in keeping with the music: a slapdash, monochromatic insert featuring a drawing of a nailed-up crow.
I was struck by the stark contrast between this release and the one by Dolcinian—also on the Ordo MCM label. While the label clearly invested great care into the presentation and production of the Dolcinian 7-inch (which is in color, comes in a gatefold sleeve, and boasts a gritty, high-impact sound), they don’t seem to have applied the same level of attention to this split. I sincerely hope that Ordo MCM settles into a high standard of production, both in terms of cover design and overall graphic presentation.
