Zephyrous is quite an unknown band when it comes to the Greek scene. This album can still be counted to the early Greek material (1994 was the time when Non Serviam and Eosforos were released) but it doesn't share too many of its characteristics.First, the guitar tone is very trebly and has a hollow tone to it. While the guitar does play a major role, the album is not based around it - I mean, it's often used to enhance the atmosphere, more like the typical use of keyboards in the Hellenic brand of Black metal. The keyboards often carry the music, but without drifting into over-prominence due technical prowess (check out Varathron's "Lament of Gods" for an example of this). It's hard to explain, let's just say it's rather used in an unusual way, providing lots of ambience and at times even rhythm. The drumming was probably done by a computer, but is programmed rather well, if somewhat monotonous.Dreamlord's vocals might sound like your average BM vocals at first, but as you keep listening, they sometimes remind of someone being chocked to death while gargling blood. I know it sounds weird, but better listen for yourself."Entrance and Wandering..." often switches from almost industrial ambience to Greek Black metal in a matter of a dozen seconds, so be prepared for a rather weird listening experience. This album needs some time to sink in, but when it does, it shows some good ideas which are not too few and far between. Of course, this was a band that just got on its feet, so it should be clear that the album does sometimes turn into directionless and sometimes very boring tripe (most notably the failure that is "Sensations lost in Time") but overall, this is a decent debut effort. If you are an open-minded metalhead, I recommend Zephyrous to you.
