THE EP:
Antithesis - Drums and vocals.
B.G. Ikanunna - Guitars.

Mcd version by Deathrash Armageddon limited to 1000 copies.

Before this release, Andramelech was a Black/Death Metal band. To me the change of sound was quite a pleasant surprise. What you will find on this release is quite raw Black Metal, which has never been my favorite genre. But of course there are exceptions, and this is one of them.
This release to me sounds a bit like a more elegant and somehow more sophisticated Ashdautas. The EP is really full of atmosphere and beautiful riffs. The vocals sound tormented, but not in an unpleasant way like many "depressive" Black Metal bands. It sounds like they come from far, with a slight echo. Cold, but definitely not without power. To me it's really quite pleasant and unique.
That all sounds great, but there is also a less positive, if not negative side to the first part of the release, namely the drum work. I definitely wouldn't say it's the downfall of the album, but it definitely could have been something more. To me it's far too constant. A nice rhythm which compliments the music, but if I really focus on the drum work I can't help but think there should be more variation in the first two tracks. While "Antithesis" and "Involution of Kosmos" have a different song structure, I think big parts of the drum work of both tracks could as well be switched. The drum work in the beginning of "Antithesis" for example could perfectly be used for the beginning of "Involution of Kozmos".
That aside, I think this is an excellent release. "Antithesis" is an excellent track full of amazing atmosphere. The same counts for "Involution of Kosmos". "Omega (Annunciation of Pest)" starts slow, which forms a pleasant break. Unfortunately - although the track is beautiful - it isn't particularly memorable. "The black blood of Kingu" at first doesn't seem to bring anything memorable either, but then it changes into a melancholic, blurry dream which slowly vanishes at the end. It makes you want to close your eyes and wish the music could last a little longer.
This EP is like an unpolished diamond. Subtle beauty which has the potential to flourish into a big, polished diamond. Andramelech is one of the greater bands Mexico has to offer. Fans of Ashdautas and Galgeras are most likely to appreciate this EP.
