Arghoslent / Martial Barrage "Send Forth The Best Ye Breed" Split CD

"Send Forth the Best Ye Breed" is a split release by US death metal act Arghoslent and Canadian black/death metal act Martial Barrage. The split was released through Drakkar Productions in October 2009. All material from both artists is exclusive to this split except for "The Ghosts of Flossenburg" by Arghoslent which had already appeared on their 2005 split with Mudoven and Der Stürmer. Both artists belong to the controversial white supremacy part of the death metal society, although Arghoslent are a bit more forthright about it, while Martial Barrage conceal their messages more in lyrics dealing with war and history.

The split features four Arghoslent tracks and five tracks by Martial Barrage. It´s an album length release with a total playing time of 41:11 minutes, so it´s basically like you get an EP from each artist. The Arghoslent tracks are natural continuation of the melodic death metal style of their previous album release "Hornets of the Pogrom" (2008) and the quality of the material is high. Arghoslent have an easialy recognisable sound, and besides writing some effective and memorable melodic death metal, their relatively unique sound is a great plus.

Martial Barrage play a harsh, raw, and brutal type of blackened death metal. It´s pretty abrasive, aggressive, and punchy, and there´s no doubt these guys mean business. The tracks aren´t that different from each other, and therefore the Martial Barrage part of the split has a tendency to become a little one-dimensional.

Overall though "Send Forth the Best Ye Breed" is a good quality split release where you get both quality and quantity. Both parts of the split are well produced, well performed, and features either great or reasonably good quality songwriting
