Casketgarden "This Corroded Soul Of Mine" CD

Melodic Death / Thrash Metal from Hungary in the vein of In Flames!!!

Melodic death metal from Hungary...aside from Casketgarden, I'm not familiar with anything from Hungary, nor do I know much about the metal scene over there. Anyways, this full length follow up to their 2002 EP, is fairly decent. The first thing that stands out to me that isn't good are the vocals. They not only bear a shouty sort of growl (which gets a little irritating), but also are rather bland and somewhat repetitious. The vocals are tolerable however, and considering that there is some seriously decent guitar work going on during this cd, Casketgarden aren't all bad, and the vocals are hardely a reason to pass this cd.
Now onto the guitars. The good stuff. Plenty of damn fine riffage here. Enjoyable melodies, a handful of interesting leads, and heaps headbangable moments. However, the riffs have a lot of themes that are very akin to those of At the Gates. I would assume the guitar players listen to At the Gates twenty four hours a day. Not very original, but I just can't get enough melodic death metal, so I'll take what I can get. The drumming, odd as it may seem, sounds just like that of At the Gates! Now that I think about it the vocals remind me a bit of Tomas Lindberg. Oh well, nice try Casketgarden, but the world hardely need any more At the Gates clones, there's more than enough already. I probly shouldn't rate this album so high but I do enjoy melodic death metal.
