nde, blackmetal band from Rennes, Brittany / Angers, Maine-et-Loire, France :
I. Luciferia - vox, guitars, bass, keys
Thomas Njodr - drums
after the excellent "Emen Etan" and "The Rebirth of I", the band returns with their 4th full-length album "Goétie Funeste"

Goétie funeste marks the fourth full length from French black metal band Ende. Formed by multi-instrumentalist I. Luciferia, who is probably best known for his other project Reverence (which released two split with Blut aus Nord among four full lengths and a few demos), Ende has been steadily delivering top notch black metal that toes the line between their French heritage and the no frills styling of the second wave.
Released one year (and nine days) after its predecessor, Goétie funeste continues down the murkier, heavier path laid out by 2017’s Emën Etan. Over this latest album (and the previous one) Ende has managed to retain the feisty second wave leanings of their first two albums while pushing their sound into darker and more menacing realms. Tracks like “A Circle Made of Human Remains” combine this pulsing heaviness with the tremolo-driven fury of previous material while “Blakolla” is steadily fixed on fiery yet melodically charged nod to Norwegian black metal of the ’90s.
A major staple of their earlier material, the whipping winds and forest-type noises are still present right from the beginning, as whispers and minor key notes set a darkened tone on the intro track, but the focus seems to be more morbid than before. I. Luciferia, who performs all instruments except drums (which are handled by T. Njodr), has continued to improve his performance and song writing abilities over the the past six years with Ende. Goétie funeste manages to be frighteningly intense while remaining fascinatingly inviting. The songs weave from stretches of cathartic, mid-paced tremolo picking like on “A ta peau glabre” to the destructive, hellfire bent of “Ars Goetia” with its well timed-blasts and serpentine structuring.
Goétie funeste is probably Ende’s most dynamic and complex album since their formation. It sees the band developing the formula they began to toy with on Emën Etan and bringing it to a new level. It’s an immersive album with plenty of twists and turns to keep your attention, yet it has enough of a nostalgic air to still sound authentic. I. Luciferia and T. Njodr have once again outdone themselves in fine fashion.
