Funerarium "Valley Of Darkness" CD

Reissue of the "Demo 2005" as album. Recorded between July 2003 and January 2005.

Hailing from the small country of Luxembourg, Funerarium (formerly known as Uther Pendragon) consist of two members and play true underground Black Metal. Even though they categorize their music as "Funeral Black Metal", they don't have much in common with bands like Nortt. Instead Funerarium play a rather traditional, atmospheric kind of Black Metal.
The opener Disappearance Of A Sad Spirit makes clear that you had better not be afraid of bad production to enjoy this demo. The vocals are distant and distorted, and the drums could have been more distinguishable. It is not that bad, though, and considering the fact that this is an underground band with small budget, the result is acceptable and quite listenable. In fact, the production adds a certain cold and glaucous atmosphere to the music.
The music itself has an early-nineties, Burzumesque feeling in it. Funerarium are not Burzum clones, however: the music is not as depressing and repetitive. Songs like Funeral Procession or Valley Of Darkness are really worth listening to. Last but not least, the superb instrumental outro is a clear highlight: Sad and beautiful. A really good, even if not innovative, demo.
