*Gjenferdsel is a made up word. "Gjenferd" means ghost/spirit. "Ferdsel" means travelling. So Gjenferdsel is some kind of a spiritual journey from death.

Gjenferdsel was started back in 2002, when Iudex decided to start a black metal band. Later he got in touch with Iratus, which joined in as a drummer. The first song “Når market faller på” was made, and after a three month break in 2003 Iudex had come up with new material. Their concept demo “Det Kom Et Skip Til Björgvin...”, was released in April 2004, and it is based upon the greatest plague of them all; the black death. There was a lot of response on the demo, both positive and negative, but overall the impressions were quite good. Especially down in Europe. Not late after the demo being released, Gjenferdsel started to rehearse for upcoming material. In early 2005 Invictus joined the band as a session/live bassist to make the band ready for live duties. A bit later, Iudex figured out that he needed more movement within the band, and wanted to change the direction a bit. He therefore broke with drummer Iratus. Now the drums are handled by Invictus.
