Gorewinter’s Vernichtung 1995–1999 swims in frigid atmospheres and morbid imagery, a definitive reissue of their early demos now resurrected by Werewolf Records. Highlighted by the brutal title track 'Vernichtung,' this anthology captures the stark, icy fury of late-’90s Finnish black metal, complete with remastered sound and archival visuals.
Baron Tarwonen reflects on the beginnings of Gorewinter:
“It all started with me and Lord Euren in 1995. “Winterholocaust” demo was recorded in a decrepit cabin using analog tape and broken amplifiers, spread through underground circles but we were never committed to anything that was commercial. Instead we chose to create our sound as a relentless storm of tremolo-picked riffs, cavernous shrieks and blast beats echoing through the void – recorded in a single take on analog equipment to preserve the purity of chaos.
After a few demo releases the band was put to hibernation until now, 20 years later, Werewolf Records have done a remarkable job searching the original tapes and remastering the whole set as a compilation cd. What once started can now be continued. Gorewinter stands against the hollow modern world, embracing the purity of suffering and the beauty of desolation. No compromise. No light. Only eternal winter!”
