The Bytowians have been rocking the scene for quite a few years now, because they started back in the previous century, in 1996 to be exact. Since then, their discography has gathered a few demos, two splits, an EP and, together with this one, two albums. "Grobowe Legiony Pomsty" is a total of seven tracks, but only four of them are metal, because the other three are electronic "instrumentals". However, there is something to listen to, because the actual tracks are almost half an hour of music that does not smell of sterility at all. This is raw black metal and if we were to ignore the synthesizer inserts and a few atmospheric and sublime interjections that give Hatenwar's music a bit of a pagan touch, we could say that it is pure Norwegian. Through the elements present in it, which are clearly associated with polytheism present at the beginning of the Polish state, our tribal spirit, closely related to Slavic Native Faith, is dormant in it. The rest are Scandinavian rhythms, which are very similar to the work of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto. Faster parts are something that brings back memories of the third and fourth albums of the Norwegians, because they are decisive and hypnotic chords, which do not sin with a friendly attitude. This slower picking is something like "Panzerfaust", because it is stocky rocking in the style of Hellhammer, which at times moves away into slightly mystical areas, smelling of a basement and stuffy incense like on the first, of course underground, Samael recordings. So Hatenwar recorded sharp and iconoclastic black metal, in which they used the best patterns from different approaches to this genre, which can, and even should be considered as determinants of each of them. They dressed the whole thing in Slavic clothes and a very interesting production was created, with clear intentions. Played on ear-splitting guitars, supported by a booming rhythm section, and everything here and there embellished with keyboard backing, which also gave this release an occult dimension. The vocalist spits out lyrics with hostility, tearing his throat out, because the trembling of his vocal cords forms extremely filthy sounds. And that's how it should be. A very good album.
