Heathen Deity are one of those bands that display a well and fitting representation of what English black metal truly is both musically and visually. In a live perspective, Heathen Deity are not one of those bands who are faceless in the crowd of many but a force to be reckoned with in terms of styles and commitment to their ethics to which shows how a band can be determined to carve their own paths. In recent years, bands tend to have a "clean" or over the top production in their recorded products but Heathen Deity maintained to have a raw sound in their material in favour to keep the music true to itself with no compromise whatsoever.

Religious Purification Through Fire is a demo that marks Heathen Deity's true revival after a long hiatus consisting of materials that are composed with one intention to rise above in the English metal scene, but stylistically, the demo is a snippet for what is to come from the band in the near future and it promises us that the band are on the right path to delivering music that will drive the audience and listeners. When listening to the demo, there is an eerie atmosphere being placed from start to finish with a sound that is completely original with the guitar playing being so precised and the vocals giving a shrieking sound that hasn't been heard for some time which is good to bring that type of vocal back but mixed together with the musical composition does the demo become a creative piece of music.

With a song like "Gut the Church" which is a crowd favourite that it delivers strength and power with all of it's intention to bring the atmosphere in full circle at a live performance but it's also a snapshot to what the band is all about and there's a certain drive from that particular song that completely stands out in the demo as the strongest. But "As the Past Burns Away" is a different style of song, conveying a beautiful acoustic sound proving that Heathen Deity knows what an atmosphere in a song truly is and there's no denying that it takes the listener somewhere in a musically sense, so it clearly obvious that band themselves are capable at writing songs that are structured in different styles and with that will it determine that their next release will be something of good importance towards the English black metal scene.
