Under The Sign Of Garazel 2014 It is just amazing how intelligently and diligently Hierophants Descent is able to be influenced by Greek Black Metal`s golden times. “The Apocalypse of Evil” does emanate with the atmosphere we know from early Rotting Christ, Necromantia or Varathron`s works. Do we need more, these days, eh? It is simply incredible how pleasantly this music reminds us of the good times when the Greek black metal was instantly recognizable – due to its characteristic sound and this unique, exceptional atmosphere. “The Apocalypse of Evil” is Greek to the bone, and could’ve as well been released in the late 80s. No problem. Well, this is rather a compliment when it comes to relatively young a band, Hierophants Descent; most of the above mentioned bands have changed their music drastically, indeed. When we talk about this band from Athens, the trend is just opposite. They intend to go in the opposite direction, don’t they? This trip of theirs to the past, to the roots of the genre makes this material even more important, especially for these raised on Necromantia`s “Vampiric Rituals” or Rotting Christ`s “Decline's Return.” I wish we had more bands influenced in the same way as here. This is a really good band, indeed. I am pretty sure we`re going to hear about `em again, as Hierophants Descent has an unusual potential. To sum up, well, this ep is limited to 500 copies and available through Under the Sign of Garazel for some really reasonable money. LWS.
