2nd press on Blue/Black vinyl. The LP contains a double-sided insert with unseen pictures and other paraphernalia, plus exclusive pro-recorded bonus live-tracks that will absolutely blow your fucking mind!!
This is hands-down the only black metal band I know that manages to combine blistering speed with interesting melodies. Either you get Burzum and Darkthrone with good melodies and no speed, or Marduk and Setherial on the other end with decent speed but unoriginal riffwork. In Battle, first off, is faster by far than Marduk, Setherial, Blot Mine, Dark Funeral, or any other agressive black metal band I can think of that people usually call 'fast.' Much faster. And no, this is not a drum machine. They play live and suffer from no loss in speed. So let's just get past it and say that they are amazingly fast and not faking it.The riffwork and song construction here is far above the par of other 'fast' black metal bands, putting them in that rare category of agressive creative extreme metal that makes lets Nile, for instance, stand heads and shoulders above other technical death metal bands due to thier originality coupled with extreme technicality. Same thing here. In Battle is a raging cacophony of blistering melody, as a simple latticework of shifting minor bar chords gives way to harmony and counterparts of melodic attack that twist and turn. On top of this are chords of choir-like keyboards giving a fullness to the sound one would not expect. There are some silly flute parts in two songs, but silliness is par for the course when black metal is busy being innovative, and in no way ruins the album. If this review interests you, and you have been searching for hyper-fast melodic black metal, get the album. It's that good.
