Generally, when I listen to black metal, I enjoy lengthy tracks that build slowly and unleash their demons gradually. Considering that fact, i found it rather confusing that I quite enjoyed Kadotus' short, sharp and visceral songs that take next to no time to complete.
Having said that, Kadotus' debut full-length does contain some intricate build-ups which take their time in getting to where they want to go. These steady build-ups are conceived through melodious riffs which are dragged forward by some very rasping vocals. The vocals aptly portray the lyrical themes, so there is no problem with that side to them. However, they are, of course, indecipherable. When it comes to black metal, you must not expect to be able to hear the lyrics clearly. That would just make it easy for the audience. Oh no. We're subjected to throaty renditions of satanic songs misanthropically expressing their ideas from the pit of the vocalists stomach. But ultimately, that's why we keep coming back for more. Fyrdkal makes light work of the vocals. They're used at good times, never become overbearing and manage to achieve a level of high standards that make them oddly enjoyable when you consider the lyrical themes.
The percussion section can be very basic at times. Simple blast beating is used for a vast majority of the time, which is perhaps a little disappointing. I'd rather here some variation. The higher pitched textures of the hi-hat and cymbal aspects come into play very often. They, like the riffs of the guitars, are short and sharp. This piercing effect keeps the audiences attention firmly fixed on what Kadotus are doing. Bass is a bit of a problem as it can tend to get drowned out by the distortion of the guitars, as well as the rasping venomous vocals. However, the riffs are original enough to keep the majority of fans and new listeners content for a sustained period of time. Considering the short nature of this full-length, the audience doesn't have to contend with ten minute long songs that don't particularly go anywhere. Fortunately, the short and sharp effect of Seven Glorifications of Evil means that the listener won't get bored when it comes to the length of this album, which stands at just over 33 minutes.
Kadotus produce a very back-to-basics style of black metal. Much like anything anyone from the second wave produce. Fast and furious assaults of the satanic kind. This is incredibly blasphemous. Something which is portrayed well enough through the lyrics:
"Chained in worthless life
Where evil dwells"
The lyrics aren't particularly inspiring, but they'll do. It's black metal, what more can one expect? The main cause for concern on this otherwise decent debut, is the simple fact that it's too short. I find it difficult at times to devote myself to the atmosphere. Like I said though, this debut is otherwise quite good.
