Chile has always been my favorite country in South America when it comes to Death Metal, and needless to say, the number of talented bands within its borders, from the glorious Pentagram to the present day.
The band in question comes from the center of the country, from Los Angeles in the Biobío province. These four warriors are from there, and they just released their long-awaited debut album. It was about time, since the band was formed back in 2007.
Well, here we have a powerful and effective way of creating Death Metal, the kind from before, from the glorious early 90s, with a serious punch. If there's one thing these Necrobastard possess, it's that hook to craft powerful riffs, the kind that tear down mountains, the furious and effective ones that are always appreciated.
The truth is, I'm lost when it comes to pigeonholing them, as there are times when I think I hear a European style, and other times I feel like it's pure Yankee Death Metal created in Tampa. The first songs reminded me a lot of the very early Unleashed, especially in some riffs, Necrophobic in their Death Metal era, Grave, or Bolt Thrower.
At other times, they sound like Deicide or Disincarnate, at other times they seem to develop rhythms reminiscent of Sepultura or Slayer. In short, they've managed to combine many different approaches to Death Metal, always based on the old school. The sound is devastating; I'd say the vocals are very similar to Glen Benton's.
The album, far from falling into the typical half-hour recording, has been worked with a total of 10 cuts in the hour-long duration, which enhances the album's note since the time is masterful, in short, after 3 listens that I have throughout the day I regret not having put them in the top 10 of the year, that's what happens when you don't wait until the last minute to do it, an album that says goodbye to this year of 2021 with an outstanding, one of the best I have heard in South America all year, as they say... A great album!
