Five songs that materialize from the most cacophonic sound the horror and rage of wandering souls within the end of the world. Screams of guts crushing under the rebellion of the wrathful! Revenge will be ruthless and will not end until you see everyone down.Only Crushing, Gnarly and Sick Death Metal is what the band gives us in this new release.
A new EP from the Chilean death metal brutes Phantasmagore is out now via Apocalyptic Productions, Headsplit Records and Necrolatry Records, let’s dive right into the tomb.Feedback dissipates into a vile spew of rancid riffing and pulverising drums to unleash a cavernous and brutal assault of pure old school death metal. The swinging low-tempo grooves are reminiscent of Finnish death metal titans more ferociously blasting sections add plenty of dynamics to caustic effect. Without remorse, they deliver some truly rotten sounds that have a gripping aggression and sepulchral atmosphere that drips fetid odours forth from the speakers while the maniacal barbarians decimate all with their filth. The mix is raw and murky yet everything is easily audible, the way a death metal demo / EP should be, with thick and tarry bass, monstrously guttural vocals and putrefying riffs atop tight, primal and brutish drums. This EP has a sluggish and malodorous way of crawling along like festering slime that has grown sentience, then jumping into an onslaught of bestial violence without warning only to slither back into the swamps of ichor. As we are further consumed by the terrors of sewer-dwelling death metal, the bog-like tonality is gloriously stringy in texture, giving this particular slice of morbidity something you can feel as well as hear.Festering until the end, this is some of the most malignant and crudely enjoyable death metal I have heard come from Chile recently (a country I always associate to their phenomenal black/thrash metal bands), that is not to say they lack this macabre music, only that Phantasmagore stand out as a highlight. Pure brutal carnage in the vein of Autopsy, Cianide, Rippikoulu and Abhorrence with that visceral South American energy injected into the corpse.
