Quintessenz "To The Gallows" CD

old-school Black Metal for Hellhammer, Bathory and Venom Fans.

As the current year draws its last breath, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish you all a great New Year and to present my personal album favorite of 2016.My old colleague Mr. Genözider has unveiled this genius full-length in November. "To the Gallows" is generally rooted in Black Metal, yet there's a whole lot more to discover as the listener finds himself stumbling across new gems with each new spin of the record. Quintessenz incorporates classic elements of Heavy Metal, Bathory-styled hymns, blastbeat Black Metal, eery acoustic interludes and a wide variety of vocal styles (adding to this are the multiple guest vocalists on this record). This album embodies the way I imagine progress and the evolution of a genre: There's no need for a band to distance itself from traditions and well-established patterns if you have the technical/song-writing abilities to be able to present the old in a contemporary fashion instead of forcing the new upon yourself to stand out. The old ways are well-established for a good reason: They work. There's no need to cater to Hipsters in order to make a successful record even well beyond the millenium. "Reinflame the stake!"
