I’ve been listening to extreme metal since its inception. All the brutal genres are my weapons of choice, but 2nd wave black metal is amongst my favorites. In +25 years since this gem of an album was released, I have never even heard anyone mention their name, and it’s a fucking crying shame!!!! This has flown pretty much under everyone’s radar till now, finally time to give this CD the fucking review it deserves.
With only a shitty EP under their belt, released some 3 years prior, these warmongers returned to the studio to annihilate their previous offering and the result is captivating. If you are a fan of the best and most savage albums of Thy Primordial, Setherial or early Cirith Gorgor then look no further. These Swedes crush the followers of the light and lay waste to Eden. The promised land now burning ash and charred remains. A stunning production gives this album a razor-sharp metallic injection as it rages along mostly at breakneck speed. There are a number of breakdowns, offering much variety, but all culminate back into the speed of darkness riffing to finish off each song. Drumming keeps pace, at frenetic speed, and is a blast fest of infernal fury.
Vocals are amazing as Fredrik Sundin murders the lyrics with his Swedish accent. There's even a song in their mother tongue titled "Mot ovigd jord skolen de vandra" and its one of the highlights. No wait, the entire album is the fucking highlight. They gave enough break downs to mix things up but always circle back to that all speed annihilation. Fucking mind blowing. I’d fault the arrangements somewhat, but now I’m just being totally fucking anal and it’s due to this that they don’t get the ultimate score. In my lifetime of hunting down brilliant and unknown black metal bands that play in the 2nd wave style, it is only "Nefandus - The night winds carry our name" that can match this one as “the find of the century” . Black Diamond productions heralded for releasing this beast.
Enough said. You get the picture of what this album is about. Ripping, aggressive, memorable. Three describing words to sum it all up. Satan is fucking banging the heads that don’t bang. Man is he pleased.
