Kalma is a very strong album, from Finnish metal band Soulgrind. Heavy riffs with plenty of punch, overlays of haunting ethereal keyboards. Adding depth to the music, a very original album each song is composed to the highest quality! What I also like about this album is the dual vocals of Miss W. Lilith & Ceasar T. McLaunone, this really works well with the whole atmosphere of the album. I strongly recommend this cd to anyone who likes Black/Dark Metal Very good indeed.

Soulgrind was born in 1992. After a short existence, it got a deal from German based MMI Records ( Autonomy Productions ). The first release was 7“ EP titled Santa Sangre featuring unique dark industrial mixed to doom and black feelings. In 1994 the debut CD titled La Matanza, El Himno Pagano was released through the same label. Album featured much more complex and weird emotions and structures than the previous EP. The next effort, LADIT 1999 AD: BIHTTPOTB got even further. 74 minutes of extremely complex and orchestral structures mixed into black and doom music. Both albums were created at the studio during recordings and could be called extremely exprerimental ones. Unfortunately pour production didn´t give the albums what they deserved. A small European tour followed in 1995. Roope Latvala ( Sinergy, Stone, Children Of Bodom) was a session guitarist on the tour.As the mastermind, Lord Heikkinen, has always been keen into dark past of Finland ( Kouta on La Matanza... album etc. ), he felt that there was time to make a consept album dealing with that matter. That was the now praised Whitsongs CD. For that album Soulgrind´s line - up got it´s solid base. Agathon on drums, Whisper Lilith on female vocals and Ceasar on screams. Whitsongs got ultimate reviews in Aardshock, Imhotep, Perkele etc. With that album Soulgrind gained the deal with Holy Records. The first release with the union of (un)Holy and Soulgrind was Kalma. That album got good response again from the metal press ( Perkele 9/10, Imhotep 6/7 etc. ) That was a very personal album for Lord because of the death of his father a month before the studio sessions. After the release Soulgrind did a few succesful gigs around Finland and started to gain solid fan base. The second CD with Holy records was titled Elixir Mystica in year 2001. The album mixed emotions of both Kalma And Whitsongs albums. The response was again excellent and people started to appreciate the band more and more. After this album changes happened, as Caesar quit the band due his own record label, Aquarius Productions. No hard feelings were left. Azhemin took over the main vocals. Latest album titled Into The Dark Vales Of Death was created in the late 2001/early 2002 and recorded in May 2002. The band made the best CD so far. The album was again recorded at Studio 303 in Helsinki under guidance of Doctor Coxx and mixed at Finnvox Studios by Master Mika Jussila ( Children Of Bodom, Thunderstone, Stratovarius, Impaled Nzarene, Nightwish etc. etc. ) .Music could be called a mixture of dark emotions, melodies and ultimate power. This time Azhemin got more room for his melodies and he took more part in the creating process as well. The response has been superb again and the new album shall be out NOVEMBER 2004 through Holy Records. The Dark Saga goes on...
