Dolentia's current sound does not differ exponentially from previous releases, but it is impressive how they managed to evolve both at the level of composition and production. Guitar riffs are mostly brought to us through a barbaric and martial sound that rises to epic moments of ancestral glory. It is beautiful to hear how the band is succeeding in mixing between rawness and melody thus creating captivating atmospheres that will wrap the senses through an almost hypnotic way.
The lyrics still aim to the ancestors, old values ​​and death, but this time much more refined and perceptible. Dolentia decided to improve their production and it becomes evident when Luctus opens his gullets to offer us screams that suddenly turn into warlike cries. The other instruments, especially the guitars, have also been improved, but we feel that the whole musical ensemble is not really raw or fully polished - it's all in a good middle ground. This band knows that they would have to improve their sound, but they are also aware that they could not lose the genetics of black metal.
"Iniciação Eversiva" may not even be as ritualistic as the previous works, but the ancestral pigment is well known through the warlike hymns that make up the album. On the other hand, and quite positive, musical maturity has grown. Dolentia are a gem in the Portuguese black metal scene and every enthusiast of this subgenre should listen to this fantastic band.
