Another grist to the mill for those who don't like Wened's work. And I won't hesitate in writing about his next projects if they happen to catch my eye at all. Because I like that music, quite simply. Today, briefly about the "Northern Starlight Spaces" EP by Exercitus Septentrionale (formed in alliance with two Italian musicians, Ulv and Arko, known from Nattens Vokter and Skugge, among others). The material is raw, cold black metal very much inspired by Vikernes' early but also later works. It is, of course, obscure in terms of sound, but with a fair amount of melancholy and atmosphere. Very much in the style of compositions such as "Jeg faller", "Lost wisdom", "Naar Himmelen Klarner" or "Erblicket Die Tochter Des Firmaments". Well, and everything is with Polish lyrics and vocals by Wened. A cool nostalgia kicks in when listening to this material and this is probably its greatest virtue, plus the atmosphere of years gone by. If you don't like to moan and grumble about the good kind of repetitiveness, which, when properly played, does not bore you, I encourage you to check it out. Of course, you won't find anything new, but it's clear that's not the point here.
