In today's review, I'm gonna talk about a russian post-black band, which released this album on 2016. The review will be short because the album is short too, it has only two tracks and lasts under half an hour, which I think it's great for the kind of music they perform here. First of all, this album is hugely atmospheric, it's absurdly tense, dramatic and dense; it also spreads a lot of bad vibes. And all of that because the songs build and build until them finally explode into infernal blast beats, in a really clever way to achieve atmosphere. This sounds like Deafheaven but a bit more simplistic. In fact, Hvøsch focuses more on the post-metal side, while Deafheaven has a lot more black metal to their sound. It also features nice calm and relaxing sections like the beginning of "Tetiva", the first track on the album. Lyrically, the album is a "a two-chapter antiutopia about a tough fate of a black fox: a hunter and a couple of dogs are chasing the prey to a certain death". So, if you're a little sensitive about stuff like hunting or animal rights, you will definitely hear the album in a different way. It will be a lot more tense, a lot more dramatic, and a lot more dense. "You need 18 foxes to make a furcoat".
Like I said, the music is simplistic, so obviously the riffs are nothing special, but I think that's not a bad thing in this type of music. This is more of a mood-driven album than a riff-driven one, music is not just about riffs and this album is a really good example of that.
The production is pretty clear, and most instruments can be heard, with the exception of bass. Poor bass, he doesn't get the love he deserves. Anyway, the instruments are well played, there's no fuck-ups that I could hear and that's a good thing.
So, as I said, there's not a lot to talk about, because the music is pretty simple and the album is short. If you want to hear an album with a lot of drama and emotion put into it, this will definitely be right up your alley.
