The bad thing about this band is that it's a Menhir's sideproject, which implies that most people unaware of the existence of Menhir or people disliking them will probably never know or listen Odroerir. And that's a sad shame.
This album is quite a solid one to deserve that addendum of being called a sideproject, and I just hope they will find time and recognition (they deserve it for sure) to continue this project. The music is quite nice and mostly melancholic folk, mainly, where metal guitars find a quite beautiful place (even when you will have to wait to Wanenkrieg, the third track, to heard them). The album begins with these accoustic guitars present everywhere, drawing quite melodies, and the vocals are just amazing, mixing male and female clean vocals with choirs and vocal leads. I think it's quite a nice idea to sing their songs in german, as it adds a lot of flavour to the music. From the said third track, electric guitars take a more main role. They sound somewhat dirty and raw, which gives a very beautiful contrast with the accoustic ones and specially with the violins, when they sound at the same time. On track five the style goes back to the one of the beginning of the record, after some sample sound of waves and sea very clean guitars build the song. Track six, probably the highlight of the album, is one of the longest longest and most variated ones of the album, with some marching drums, some quite nice and effective guitar riffs. And the last track starts with the noise of birds and an intro with a flute, and it goes slow and soft, making one think that it's going to be a slow and quiet song to end the listening, but four of five minutes ahead the electric guitars return to do one of these rythm riffs that are very simple but nevertheless beautiful and effective. Later it contains one of the most beautiful solos of the album, and in its 15 minutes it finds a place for all the elements of the record to appear and claim a proud place.
So, to conclude, Götterlieder is one of the most remarkable folk metal acts since Ásmegin's Hin Vordende Sod & Sø.
